Genre: Sci-fi/ Adventure
Directed by George Miller, the movie is an action masterpiece. Max has to survive and beat up some bad guys for resources as simple as the water in a post-apocalyptic world. Partnered with a woman (Furiosa), they travel badlands and try to live while completing their conquest of returning the woman to her childhood homeland.
If you like cars, big machines, bikes – metal, in general – and a lot of creative ways of watching people get annihilated, this movie is perfect for you.
2. The Matrix (1999)
Genre: Action/Fantasy
Directed by Lana Wachowski and Lilly Wachowski, the Matrix is a legendary movie and the first part of a trilogy you’d want to binge-watch in one night. In the movie, Neo is chosen by some strangers to lead them to their salvation. He is labeled ‘The One’; however, Neo is an average human living a mundane and average life. Faced with uncertainty and in constant peril, Neo takes a leap of faith and joins these strangers to fight for survival. ‘Agents’ do not lose pursuit and want him dead at all costs. The story unravels with unique and action-packed scenes—a must-watch for fans of the action genre.
3. The Dark Knight (2008)
Genre: Action/Thriller
The Dark Knight carefully steered away from being just another archetypal adaptation of superhero comics and, instead, gave us a radical reinterpretation of the Batman characters. Christopher Nolan’s take on the Batman mythos is more of a thought experimentation on what happens to social norms in the absence of governmental authorities. This is not a typical tale of good versus evil. The Joker, played by the late Heath Ledger, challenges the entire moral foundation of Batman’s vigilantism. Throughout the film, the Joker cleverly devises situations that force Batman and Harvey Dent to make morally questionable decisions.
4. The Man from Nowhere (2010)
Genre: Action, Crime, Drama
The Man from Nowhere is a refreshing take on the ‘strong, silent’ protagonist, and while it doesn’t reinvent the genre, the plot provides an emotionally charged experience that is rarely seen in action films today. The story looks at the life of Cha Tae-sik, a lonely pawn shop keeper who is befriended by So-mi, a young child living next door. Her drug-addicted mother gets involved with a local crime syndicate that ends up killing her and kidnapping So-mi. This prompts Cha Tae-sik to embark on a violent chase of rescue and vengeance.
5. Speed (1994)
Genre: Action, Adventure, Thriller
Speed was Keanu Reeve’s foray into the action genre and proved to be a significant transition for his career from the comically nonchalant role in Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989). The plot wastes no time in cutting to the chase with a scary hostage situation on an elevator and continues to up the ante with two action-packed chases – one on a bus, one on a subway. Sandra Bullock plays the role of a passenger named Annie who volunteers to drive the bus as the panic unfolds. Overall, Speed manages to keep viewers engaged with carefully choreographed action sequences that burst onto the screen.
6. Mission Impossible Fallout (2018)
Genre: Action/ Adventure / Thriller
This cult hit featuring heartthrob Tom Cruise is the maximum dose of action for all action-movies enthusiasts. Undoubtedly, Mission: Impossible – Fallout is the greatest action movie ever made. The story revolves around Ethan Hunt and his IMF team, who remains on their toes to compete against the time after a damned mission. The film deserves all the raves with its attention to detail, mastering all the technical stuff to set a mind-boggling action film that is critically aligned when it comes to script. In fact, the realistic performances of uber-talented actors serve as the cherry on the top. With each fist fight, you will feel your blood raging and action taking over. The perfect thing about this sequel movie is that it does not linger on the action fans. Jumping straight into the narrative; the film gets the action rolling right away
Wrapping Up
All these movies are highly appreciated and well-crafted pieces of great cinema enriched with action and exhilaration. Most of the films are legendary and timeless fan favorites. Even if you’ve seen a few, there’s always enough room and heart to rewatch. So, which ones are you watching tonight?
