1. Black Swan (2010)

Directed by Darren Aronofsky, Black Swan is about a passionate ballerina dancer named Nina (Natalie Portman). She gets selected to perform for a new production of “Swan Lake.” Nina starts losing her sense of reality, and her dark side emerges while competing for the part. By replacing prima Ballerina, Nina performs as White Swan. But, a new competition appears as Black Swan named Lily (Mila Kunis). To indulge in the sheer thrill, watch this movie on the weekend.

2. Gone Girl (2014)

David Fincher’s masterpiece ‘Gone Girl’ is written by Gillian Flynn. The movie’s plot revolves around a couple: A former writer named Nick (Ben Affleck) and his wife, Amy (Rosamund Pike), who was endorsing a blissful marriage picture to the public. But things get twisted when on their fifth anniversary, Amy mysteriously disappears, and Nick becomes the prime suspect of the crime. After a whole frenzy, where police and media pressure Nick, their public image of happy marriage crumbles into pieces, leaving multiple questions of how the couple was in reality.

3. Shutter Island (2010)

Thriller/Mystery

Based on Dennis Lehane’s novel, Martin Scorsese’s movie Shutter Island investigates the disappearance of a patient from a remote asylum, and for this purpose, two U.S. Marshals Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo) are sent there. Teddy finds out terrible things about the island, but he also needs to fight his inner fears to make it off the island alive.

4. Get Out (2017)

Thriller/Horror

Jordan Peele directed movie: Get Out is adapted from “Night of the Living Dead.” Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) and his Caucasian girlfriend Rose (Allison Williams) go on a trip to meet her family over a weekend. At first, his interracial relationship with Rose doesn’t seem a problem for her family, but as the weekend progresses, he finds out pretty disturbing truths about them and gets caught in horrible and unnerving situations that he could have never imagined.

5. The Platform (2019)

Thriller/Sci-fi

Spanish well-crafted movie piece by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia: The Platform (El Hoyo) is about a vertical prison having two prisoners at each level. In the middle, there is a deep empty hole where a platform comes down with food. But the twisting part is the food that comes down is only the remains of the upper level’s dining. The higher the level, the more food will be there to eat and waste; the lower the level, the less food to eat. This movie metaphorically serves the purpose of questioning capitalism and class dynamics in society.

6. Psycho (1960)

Thriller/Horror

Hitchcock’s most celebrated movie Psycho is one of the finest classic thrillers based on Robert Bloch’s novel Psycho. The movie follows Marion (Janet Leigh) running with stolen money. There she meets a young proprietor Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins), who has a difficult relationship with his mother. With the fear of getting caught, he takes a room at the infamous countryside hotel Bates Motel.

7. The Silence of the Lambs (1991)

Thriller/Horror

The Adaptation of Thomas Harris’s novel, this movie with the same name follows an F.B.I. student named Clarice (Jodie Foster) who was struggling to capture a serial killer. She ended up taking help from a former psychiatrist and imprisoned cannibal serial killer Dr. Hannibal Lecter(Anthony Hopkins).

8. The Sixth Sense (1999)

Under the direction of M. Night Shyamalan, The Sixth Sense movie revolves around a child named Cole Sear (Haley Joel Osment) who gets visited by ghosts. Cole’s visitations are frightening, and being a child, he cannot deal with what appears from the shadows. So he shares his secret with child psychologist Dr. Malcolm Crowe (Bruce Willis). Dr. Crowe tries to learn about the child’s supernatural abilities, and in consequence, both are pushed into something unexplainable.

9. Parasite (2019)

Thriller/Comedy

Last but not least, the Oscar-winning movie The Parasite, directed by Bong Joon-ho, is about the Kim family who infiltrates the house of a rich family named Park by restoring all the jobs of the driver, tutor, art therapist, and housemaid, and it leads to pretty comical but symbolically highlighting social issues.
